Welcome

Sometimes life can become stressful, overwhelming, sad, lonely, or you may feel stuck with noone really understanding whats going on for you and maybe not even understanding it yourself. I understand it can be difficult to face adversity and challenges alone, but together we can work through and overcome whatever difficulties you are facing. I offer one to one counselling sessions, online or face-to-face, where I create a safe, none-judgemental space, where you will be heard, accepted and validated in your experience. My approach can help you to gain more self-awareness and self-confidence, a stronger sense of self, a greater success with relationships, and more trust in your own decisions. Have a read through the information about me and my work and if you like what you read and feel it is what you are looking for today, please contact me to arrange an over the phone/online consultation to explore your options further. The best way to contact me is via email, as I have regular access to this method

ABOUT

ABOUT ME

Hi, my name is Sam, thank you for taking the time to read on. I am an integrative therapist with the person-centred approach being at the heart of my practice. I am a compassionate, kind person who cares greatly about others. I am now in my early forties, and have gone through my own big life changes over the years, including navigating parenthood, divorce, financial difficulties, bereavement, and being diagnosed with a chronic illness. Having experienced these challenges, I am very aware of the importance of having support through difficult times. Being in touch with my inner child and creative self, gives me the ability to effectively connect with children, young people and adults and easily adapt to their individual needs.

BACKGROUND

Mental health, physical health and emotional wellbeing has always been important to me. I have competed in bodybuilding and crossfit competitions and I am also a sports massage therapist. It is very important to have a healthy balance in life and after understanding the physical side of health, I then wanted to understand and help people with their mental health.

My counselling journey began volunteering as a mentor to youth offenders at Targeted Services in Wigan. This experience, along with my own personal struggles, sparked a passion inside of me to pursue a career helping others with their mental health issues. After attending college, I found myself completing a degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of Salford, where I came out with a first class honours degree. This has and continues to be an ongoing journey of self-exploration and personal development and now a fully qualified counsellor, what I love the most about what I do, is being able to support my clients through their own journey of self-exploration and witnessing them grow into a new, more resilient version of themselves. â€‹â€‹

"Growth occurs when individuals confront problems, struggle to master them, and through that struggle, develop new aspects of their skills, capacities and views about life." - Carl Rogers

PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC APPROACH

I offer an integrative approach to therapy, with person-centred experiential therapy being at the heart of my practice. This approach focuses on helping you with self-exploration, gaining a better understanding of self and finding your inner resources to reach your full potential. However, I work integratively, meaning I adapt my work to each individual clients needs, sometimes integrating techniques from other approaches in my work, if I feel these will be beneficial to my clients. Every client's journey is different and unique to them and the process could take 6 sessions, 12 sessions, or more. I find it an absolute privilege when someone chooses me to walk along side them in their journey.

SPECIALTIES

NEURODIVERGENT-AFFIRMING THERAPY

"The world needs all kinds of minds" - Dr Temple Grandin

Neurodivergence is a natural variation in the brain and not a flaw that needs to be corrected.  Having undertaken extra training around understanding neurodivergence and how traits impact a person's life, I am able to offer accommodations for sensory and communication needs. I work collaboratively with you, the client, supporting you in self-exploration,  identifying your strengths and developing strategies to navigate challenges.

Working with a neurodivergent-affirming therapist can help you to make sense of past experiences, remove limiting self-beliefs and build a more authentic sense of self.

"Neurodiversity is not about changing people, its about changing the environment to fit the person" - Nick Walker

MY SERVICES

Counselling/Psychotherapy

Therapy Session

Face to face counselling

I offer face to face person-centred counselling sessions, adapting my style to meet the needs of each individual client. The sessions are £45 and 50 minutes long and over our time together, I will help you explore your own issues, feelings, beliefs, behaviour, and worldview, so you can become more self-aware and achieve greater independence. This is great for people who prefer physical human interaction away from the home environment.

Online/Phone Therapy

I also offer counselling sessions online or over the telephone. These sessions have the same format as face to face, however, this is from the comfort of your own home. Great for people with a tight schedule and also who may not be as confident with face to face sessions.

Face to face sessions will take place in my private and confidential therapy space, located in Bryn, Ashton-in-Makerfield. There is plenty of room for parking outside my property and upon arrival you will be greeted by myself.

Trainee Counsellors

I offer a concession fee of £35 for all trainee counsellors, as I am aware of the financial impact that counselling sessions have, which is a mandatory part of the counselling course. I also offer support with person-centred counselling theory and assignments, should this be needed.
